magazine clippings

A few of the many collages that we did in two dimensional design. My favorite ones are turned in, but once I get them back i will load them

3-D extreme

The last two projects in three dimensional design last semester involved the use of line. The first one is a plaster sculpture.
The next one is using match sticks and paper clips. I explored how to take a linear object and create a wave motion.

Sorry!

Sorry it has been a while since posting anything new!
It has been a while since I have done anything fun in classes. The majority of the work in drawing has been still life. These are a few from last semester. We are working on color now which is so much better!

Welcome to college!

I am sitting here looking back on the last year at JC and I realized that I need to keep this blog up! i am taking 18 credit hours here at Winthrop University with 5 foundation art classes. I was quick to submerge myself in the art department spending more hours there then I do sleeping. My absolute favorite class is 3-D, followed by art history. I have been given a great opportunity to take an ancient Greek art class that involves a tow week trip to Greece to study the art Spring 2011.

Here are the latest 3-D projects I have done. The first is a zip tie sculpture the second and third are paper sculptures. they both worked with repetition, variety, and rhythm.

The start of my next painting. It is 30X40 canvas, so the same size as the one before that is similar. I plan on adding more colors in the water to show the movement better. I got extremely frustrated so I had to quit for the day. I am happy though with the skin colors and I feel that I have been getting better and better!

This is in chalk. I was exploring how to use mark making to show a sense of movement. One of the smaller drawings that I have done in a while.

I took things to the extremes

Another snowy day painting! This should look slightly familiar. I played with the colors but I guess the flash messed the colors up even more. I still enjoyed doing it and I am finally out of my funk!

I found this statue on my fireplace. the window was open and the light hit it perfectly. My mom was given this when her mom died. It was carved by my great aunt. All I can say is thank God for picture phones! Love you Grandma!

future paintings?

the two together...

...the shins extending from the previous painting. Again abstract with texture in the water. showing the movement and refractions.

the texture in water. with a small portion of a body makes a perfect abstraction.

Ideas!

New Ideas for the next few months!!:

1. Collage swimmer:
- large cardboard
- from a picture
-use cutout paper to follow colors of picture
- show movement through the colors and cutouts

2. relay start:
during a relay start, the swimmer on the block makes a "window" with their hands to follow the swimmer in the water.
an awesome view for a painting would be through the "window" of the water

3. relay start portrait:
portrait of a swimmer through the window of their hands.
- bright lighting and shadows
- good reflection in goggles, and swim cap

4. idea from 'heart of life picture" (to right, replace tree with myself)
- colorful roots, from my feet
- wearing tie-dye smock
- smock is only halfway tie-dye, to show the roots are feeding the colors of the smock

5. normal self potrait
- wearing tie-dye smock

This is the movement in water. This is how i view the flow of water. Its choppy and distorted. The water and her legs disappear into the black because of the distortions. Her face and part of her swim cap is the only thing out of the water so it is not distorted. The view of water is not always flowing and beautiful its misshapen and warped.

The Block

A view i am all to well familiar with. The swim block above the pool and the lane ahead. personally this view brings a lot of emotion, it is an adrenaline rush.

The Swimmer

This is a self-portrait on a recycled door of me swimming. I wanted to show movement in the water from the different colors and especially from the reflection. It is the start of a concentration.
